A brief history of Western Hotel & Executive Suites –

Robert Coulson broke ground on the original Western Hotel in February of 1881. His vision was to create the best hotel in Guelph. That same four-story stone structure, which boasted 40 rooms, still stands prominently on Macdonell Street. Western Hotel & Executive Suites was one of many hotels surrounding the Grand Trunk Railway station on nearby Carden Street, but quickly emerged as the place to stay for travelers. Known for its imported whiskies, the Western Hotel was a downtown jewel by the late nineteenth century.

Rejuvenating the original architect Robert Coulson’s vision, Western Hotel & Executive Suites has been immaculately restored from its 1881 origins, and now is home to 19 executive suites that pay homage to the quality and incredible craftsmanship of its time, while upgrading it to the 20th century. The juxtaposition between the rustic stone walls, wood beams and high ceilings with modern kitchens, bathrooms and furniture certainly make this appealing and comfortable to all.
